We offer a connected set of courses that support you from first steps in bike care through to advanced technical and safety skills. Whether you are completely new to bike maintenance, looking to build confidence, or ready to specialise, you can join at the level that feels right and keep progressing at your own pace.
1) Level 2 in Bike Maintenance
This course is ideal for beginners, community volunteers, and anyone who wants a solid, recognised foundation in looking after bikes. You will learn essential checks, basic repairs, and safe workshop habits so you can keep bikes running smoothly and spot issues early. It’s a great starting point for our more specialised courses.
2) Cycle to a brighter future - Path 2 Purpose Bike Course
Designed for people who want to grow confidence, routine, and practical skills around bikes, this course blends hands-on maintenance with personal development. You will build new skills, work as part of a supportive group, and discover how cycling and bike work can open up new opportunities in life, learning, and employment.
3) E-bike Technician Course
This course suits learners who already have some basic bike knowledge and want to move into the fast-growing world of e-bikes. You will explore e-bike systems, diagnostics, and safe working practices with electrical components. It helps you progress towards more advanced workshop roles and supports community projects that rely on e-bikes.
4) First Aid for Cyclists (Advanced 2-Day)
Ideal for ride leaders, outdoor instructors, and committed cyclists, this intensive course focuses on remote area first aid in cycling contexts. Over two days you will practise responding to incidents, managing injuries, and keeping people safe when help may be some distance away. It complements our technical courses by building strong safety and emergency skills.
How the pathway fits together
Many learners start with the Path 2 Purpose bike course to build confidence and explore next steps, then join the ITC First Level 2 in bike maintenance to gain core skills. From there, you can specialise with the E-bike Technician Course or deepen your safety knowledge with First Aid for Cyclists. You are welcome to take individual courses or follow the full pathway over time.

ITC First Level 2 in Bike Maintenance
Our ITC First Level 2 in Bike Maintenance course gives you the practical skills and confidence to look after bikes safely and effectively. It is ideal for beginners, volunteers, and anyone involved in community bike projects who wants a solid, recognised foundation in cycle maintenance.
Who this course is for
- Cyclists who want to understand how their bike works

- Riders who want to save money on basic repairs and servicing
Core skills you will learn
- Basic bike maintenance: understanding bike parts, cleaning and lubrication, simple adjustments
- Safety checks: carrying out pre-ride checks, spotting wear and tear, knowing when a bike is not safe to ride
- Essential repairs: fixing punctures, adjusting brakes and gears, replacing brake pads and cables, setting up a comfortable riding position
Typical course duration
The ITC First Level 2 in Bike Maintenance is typically delivered over 5 days, or as a series of shorter sessions to suit your group or organisation. Training is hands-on, with plenty of time to practise each skill under friendly guidance.
By the end of the course you can

Path 2 Purpose Bike Course
The Path 2 Purpose Bike Course is designed to build both cycling skills and personal confidence. Through supportive, practical sessions, participants develop basic maintenance and explore how cycling can open up new opportunities in work, volunteering, and everyday life.
Practical riding skills
- Building confidence riding on roads, cycle paths, and in traffic
- Starting, stopping, signalling, and positioning clearly and safely
- Route planning for commuting, appointments, and leisure rides

Basic bike maintenance
- Simple safety checks before every ride

Specialist Cycling Courses: E‑Bike Technician & Remote First Aid
E‑Bike Technician Course
This hands-on course is designed for people who want to work professionally with e‑bikes or support them in a structured setting. You will gain a solid understanding of how modern e‑bike systems work, how to diagnose faults, and how to carry out safe, reliable repairs that keep riders on the road.
Who it’s for
- Bike shop mechanics and workshop staff
- Community bike projects and cycling charities
- Fleet managers and logistics companies using e‑bikes
- Technically minded riders who maintain multiple e‑bikes
Prerequisites
- Basic bicycle maintenance skills recommended (e.g. adjusting brakes/gears)
- Comfort using hand tools and following technical instructions
- No prior electrical qualification required, but an interest in electronics is helpful
Duration
- Intensive 2‑day workshop (typically 6–7 hours per day)
Main skills gained
- Understanding key e‑bike components: motors, controllers, sensors, displays, and batteries
- Using diagnostic tools and software to identify faults
- Safe handling, charging, and storage of lithium‑ion batteries
- Replacing and configuring common parts such as sensors, wiring looms, and displays
- Performing routine servicing on e‑bike drive systems and brakes

First Aid for Cyclists – Advanced Remote Area Course
This advanced 2‑day course focuses on remote area first aid for cyclists who ride, guide, or coach in places where help may be delayed. You will learn how to assess incidents, stabilise casualties, and manage cycling‑specific injuries until professional assistance arrives, even when you are far from roads or phone signal.
Who it’s for
- Club and recreational cyclists who ride in remote or hilly areas
- Guides, coaches, and ride leaders responsible for groups
- Bikepacking and adventure riders
- Event organisers and marshals for off‑road or endurance events
Prerequisites
- Suitable for participants with standard fitness for a day on the bike
- Previous basic first aid training helpful but not essential
- Comfort spending time outdoors in variable weather conditions
Duration
- 2 full days of blended indoor and outdoor training
Main skills gained
- Primary survey and scene safety in cycling environments (roads, trails, remote tracks)
- Managing fractures, dislocations, and soft‑tissue injuries from falls and collisions
- Recognising and treating head injuries, concussion, and spinal concerns
- Handling bleeding, wounds, and impalements involving bike components
- Managing hypothermia, heat exhaustion, dehydration, and shock in remote settings
- Improvised splinting and casualty movement using bikes and available kit
- Planning emergency responses and communicating effectively with rescue services
