The Wigan Cycle Project

'Your Community Bike Shop'

The Cycle Project UK cic is a community bike shop run by volunteers. We are a 'not for profit' organisation, everything we make goes back in to the business to fund community projects and further bike repairs. We are always looking for volunteers and if you have ever wanted to work in the Cycling industry we can help. NEET, long term unemployed, young people looking for an opportunity, recently made redundant? We can help with training and support to help set up your own Cycle Project!

2 and 3 Day Ebike repair course

This course has been put together for  bike mechanics or ebike enthusiasts who would like to work on ebikes. The two day course will show you everything you need to know to diagnose and fix ebikes, the three day course will look in-depth at battery technology. Based in Hindley, Greater Manchester, the course covers everything from safety and tools to controllers and motors, so by the end of day two you will have a good understanding of all ebike systems, how to fault find and repair. Contact Mark direct to find out more or send your email below to express your interest and we'll be in touch. info@thecycleproject.co.uk

The Big Bike Amnesty

At the Wigan Cycle Project we are passionate about cycling. We believe everyone should have access to a bike, especially children. Cycling isn't just fun, it teaches balance and coordination, is great for fitness and mental wellbeing not to mention the environmental advantages.

This year more than ever some families will be struggling over Christmas, so there is no better time to donate an unused bike so we can get it to a new home.

The Bike Amnesty is being mainly targeted at primary schools, the amnesty will tie in nicely to other school projects. We had some great freed back at the Youth Climate Summit and the Amnesty has gained some real momentum.

The idea is to build up to a bike amnesty, giving the children time to ask for donations and talk about other environmental issues and how cycling can help, we have lots of interesting fact's if needed! The Amnesty its self will be on one day, so the bikes can be drought in and collected at the same time, reducing clutter and giving us the opportunity for good press coverage and photos.

There are some restrictions on the bikes we can collect. As these are going to be for Christmas, if the bikes are too rusty on the frame they may not be suitable. We can accept bikes with brake or chain problems, punctures or tyre issues, damaged seats. As long as the frame is in good condition we can repair it and give it a new lease of life. The better the bike the easier it will be for our Christmas Elves to fix.

Please get in touch if you would like any more information or to get involved.

Our next BBA will be in November 2024

BIKES

We have lots in stock. Sorry, but we haven't had time to update the photo page as of late so please call in to the Hindley or Wigan shop and take a look. Most of our bikes and parts are in the Wigan store, The Grand Arcade

To sell a bike you must have proof of address and ID. You can bring the bike to our workshop for a full appraisal and offer or email details and photos for an estimate.

We Buy Bikes

We can now buy bikes! If you have a higher end bike such as a Scott, Carrera, Norco, GT, Orbea etc then we would like the opportunity to buy it.

We still rely heavily on donations, and it's your generosity that keeps the cycle project going and providing a great service. However, if you have a high end bike and need the money to buy your next bike, we may be able to help.
